FAQs
What is a Ketogenic Diet?
A ketogenic diet is one in which carbohydrates are restricted to such an extent
that insulin is not required for energy production. Carbohydrates are a class
of foods which include sugars, starch and cellulose, found in grains, beans,
and dairy foods which are not all fat, fruits and vegetables.
The theory is that many overweight people have difficulty processing carbohdrates
because the insulin hormone is unable to do its job because of overload.
When
I lose the weight will it stay off?
This is not a ‘diet’ which you pick up and discard when you have
reached your goal weight. You need to change your eating habits to find your
own critical carbohydrate level - the point at which you don’t put on
weight. As you gradually introduce more foods, you monitor your weight, and
find out your own level. So you will be able to eat carbohydrates, but less
of some than before, eg., refined carbs such as white bread.
Because of the high level of nutritional saturation, you will not go back to
binge eating, or craving. You are offered a nutritional programme for maintenance
which is easy and simple to follow.
